چکیده

Spanwise deviations from a perfect circular cross-section, affect the aerodynamics and hydrodynamics of cylindrical structures. In this study ability novel wavy cylinder, textured to reduce applied drag lift forces is investigated experimentally. Three different configurations proposed geometry, as well bare cylinder with helical strakes are 3D printed tested in an open circuit wind tunnel. Tests conducted at Reynolds numbers 3.5×104 8.0×104. Results show that time-averaged fluctuating on can be 20% 15% lower than those respectively. Amongst cylinders, straked exhibited lowest forces. However, were measured Tex30, through range tested. The Strouhal number Tex30 was found between cylinders.

Investigation of Drag Coefficient at Subcritical and Critical Reynolds Number Region for Circular Cylinder with Helical Grooves

Drag reduction of an object is the major concern in many engineering applications. Experimental studies have been carried out on circular cylinder with helical grooves in a subsonic wind tunnel. Different cases of helical grooves with different pitches, helical groove angles and number of starts of helical groove on circular cylinder are tested. Experimental results show the drag coefficient is...

Integral Turbulent Length and Time Scales in Hydraulic Jumps: an Experimental Investigation at Large Reynolds Numbers

A hydraulic jump is a rapidly-varied open channel flow characterised by the sudden transition from a supercritical flow motion to a subcritical regime. The transition is associated with a rapid increase of water depth, a highly turbulent flow with macro-scale vortices, significant kinetic energy dissipation, a two-phase flow region and some strong turbulence interactions with the free surface l...

The drag - adjoint field of a circular cylinder wake at Reynolds numbers 20 , 100 and 500

This paper analyzes the adjoint solution of the Navier-Stokes equation. We focus on flow across a circular cylinder at three Reynolds numbers, ReD = 20, 100 and 500. The quantity of interest in the adjoint formulation is the drag on the cylinder. We use classical fluid mechanics approaches to analyze the adjoint solution, which is a vector field similar to a flow field. Production and dissipati...

Force Statistics and Wake Structure Mechanism of Flow around a Square Cylinder at Low Reynolds Numbers

Numerical investigation of flow around a square cylinder are presented using the multi-relaxation-time lattice Boltzmann methods at different Reynolds numbers. A detail analysis are given in terms of time-trace analysis of drag and lift coefficients, power spectra analysis of lift coefficient, vorticity contours visualizations, streamlines and phase diagrams. A number of physical quantities mea...
